Sambhal police arrest notorious car thief linked to Shariq Satha’s gang
Bareilly: The Sambhal police on Tuesday night arrested Dilip alias Harish, a car thief and a close associate of Shariq Satha, the mastermind behind the violence in Sambhal on Nov 24, 2024. He was carrying a bounty of Rs 25,000 on his head and had been evading the police for the past four years.
Sambhal superintendent of police (SP) Krishan Kumar Bishnoi said that the Asmoli police arrested Dilip while he was here to steal a vehicle. He added that the accused repeatedly changed his and his father's name to commit crimes in various states. "Dilip has a criminal history of over 30 years. He was stealing four-wheelers from UP, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Delhi, and Rajasthan and selling them in Nagaland and West Bengal after changing registration details," said Bishnoi.
Another police officer, on the condition of anonymity, said, "There are over 40 cases registered against Dilip in different states. Among them is a case of sexual assault during a dacoity bid in Moradabad. That incident was reported in 2000, and the case is pending in the court. We are finding out if he was involved in recent crimes or if he is operating a gang. We are also investigating Dilip's involvement in the supply of weapons used in violence during Shahi Jama Masjid survey in Sambhal in Nov last year."
